For the Throw Up 20.18 project we look at the work of artist Tom Smith. Tom has been working with Beauly Shinty Club, exploring the history and culture of the team and the wider community through the ages. Tom spent many hours researching stories from players, past and present and those involved in the game..
Using a mix of lino-cut, overlaid with screen printing on a large map, presented Tom and Highland Print Studio with a challenge. The shear size of the map meant that the lino had to be split into four pieces. Then there was the small matter of screen printing onto such a large piece of work.
The final artwork will incorporate augmented reality to tell the story of the club from the early years, through both world wars and into the present day.
